Embrace Adventure in Amish Country
On April 22, 2014 we unveiled our new headquarters. All four Kobold founding fathers were in attendance for the televised ribbon-cutting ceremony, including master watchmaker and Chronoswiss founder Gerd-Ruediger Lang, explorer and Kobold ambassador-in-chief Sir Ranulph Fiennes, Carnegie Mellon University professor Jack Roseman and Kobold's founder, Michael Kobold. The ceremony was MCed by Carnegie Mellon professor R.F. Culbertson. U.S. Chief Judge David Ezra spoke of Kobold's leadership position among U.S. watch manufacturers.
U.S. Navy SEAL Commander Tom Chaby remarked on the company's long -standing relationship with the SEAL community and the U.S. armed forces. U.S. Navy SEAL and Kobold ambassador Pete Scobell performed two songs from his debut album.
David Mitchell of the Governor's office welcomed Kobold's efforts to bring high-tech manufacturing and a luxury goods brand to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The evening's main address was held by Sir Ranulph Fiennes, who spoke about his lifetime of adventure and his close ties to the Kobold brand.
Over 250 guests, including members of all branches of the U.S. military, representatives of the U.S. State Department and Germany's Consul General joined the honorees for dinner following the ceremony. The event was the first occasion in the company's 17-year history on which all four Kobold founding fathers were under one roof. Merry Oaks is surrounded by over 100 acres of fields, wooded hills and streams, and is divided by the Indian Run creek. At the heart of this tranquil setting stands a historic barn that has been fully remodeled by Amish craftsmen. This is from where Kobold's operations are run and where all Kobold products are assembled.
The barn is open to the public by appointment. Next to the barn stands a modern 3,000 square foot manufacturing facility which houses the machines with which Kobold fabricates its watch and knife components. Complete watch cases, certain movement components, watch dials and hands, as well as knives are fabricated on-site, making Kobold the only company of its kind in the United States with such a high degree of vertical integration.
