Ran's situation is untenable - something must be done to help him.

This book has been in the works for 18 months. It contains an astonishing story of betrayal, deceipt, backstabbing, incompetence, fierce rivalries, positioning among rival parties, and just a general lack of appreciation -and, crucially, empathy- for Ran’s situation among members of the Fiennes clan, a number of whom have worked very hard to prevent this story from becoming public.

Not even his Majesty the King made a sustained effort to contact his friend of 50 years, much less help extricate him from this situation.

In short, Ran has been failed at every step of the British system. It’s now time the British public take this matter into their own hands to right this wrong. After all, if someone like Ranulph Fiennes can find himself in such a predicament, it an happen to anyone!

The Book: Kidnapping Ranulph Fiennes
I’ve learned a lot from Ran over the years in terms of investigating a story and constructing a highly compelling narrative.

My book on Ran is a 650+ page account that reveals astonishing details of his treatment by his wife, LMC, the inner workings of Random (as Ran’s world is called among friends), as well as the internal fight among friends and distant relatives (besides Joseph, none of the Fiennses alive today are or have ever been particularly close to Ran) over whether or how to help Ran out of his predicament.

Furthermore, the book describes in detail how Ran became ensnared and almost immediately trapped in a highly volatile marriage, how he tried to end this marriage unsuccefully, and the aftermath of this stalled effort.

It brings to light a hitherto unreported suicide plan, a secret will written the night before his departure for the top of Mount Everest in 2008, and the shrewd calculus used to prevent Ran from executing his suicide plan.

Ranulph Fiennes on Mount Everest.

Finally, the book reveals two separate brainstorming initiatives that produced plans to kidnap Ran, one involving the British SAS and another involving U.S. Navy SEALs (neither plan went beyond these disparate brainstorming sessions), and how members of the U.K. special forces volunteered to help monitor Ran’s presumed location in an effort to aid the aforementioned hapless British police with actionable intelligene.

The final chapters of my bookbook are still being written. Depending on the success of this crowdfunding campaign, here, and the Court of Protection’s judgement over Ran’s situation, it will contain a happy end or a bleak, frustrating, and bewildering ending. This presents you, the potential backer, with a unique opportunity: It’s the one time where a book’s reader have a stake in how the story ends!

In short, Kidnapping Ranulph Fiennes is a story of hope. It’s a story of an incredibly brave, kind and humble man who raised over 20 million British pounds for charity only to be abandoned by the British system and even some of those closest to him. It’s the story of my furious effort to correct the situation Ran has found himself in. And it is a story of survival against the odds.

652 pages + 16 pages colour photographs.
