Transglobe Expedition Patch

(1979) When Kobold ambassador-in-chief Sir Ranulph Fiennes contemplated his career options after life in the military, his wife, the late Virginia Fiennes, suggested he circumnavigate the globe via its polar axis. After more than ten years of planning, the expedition sailed from Greenwich in 1979. Three years later, Sir Ranulph Fiennes and Charlie Burton became the first people to achieve a polar circumnavigation, a feat that landed them in the Guinness Book of World Records and Sir Ranulph an entry in the book as "the world's greatest living explorer". In late 2011, Michael Kobold and Sir Ranulph Fiennes, together with master watchmaker Gerd-R. Lang designed the Soarway Transglobe, a so-called tool watch. The watch was released in 2013.
