Grand Opening: Kobold Nepal

On March 26, 2012, Kobold launched its subsidiary operations in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal. Explorer Sir Ranulph Fiennes and company founder Michael Kobold inaugurated the company’s new workshop along with the U.S. ambassador’s wife, Leija DeLisi, and the British ambassador to Nepal, John Tucknott. The grand opening ceremony was attended by over 200 guests, dignitaries and VIPs. Kobold Watch Company Nepal Pvt. Ltd. will produce a special line of Kobold watches named Himalaya. The Himalaya line is assembled by two Sherpas who are former mountain guides and who assisted Sir Ranulph Fiennes, Anita Kobold and company founder Michael Kobold in their 2008, 2009 and 2010 expeditions to Mount Everest. Namgel and Thundu Sherpa were trained at Kobold’s Pittsburgh headquarters in the art of watchmaking. During their 10-month-long stay in the United States, they not only learned how to assemble and repair watches. Namgel and Thundu also traveled to dozens of cities in 17 states. The Sherpas now preside over their very own Kobold subsidiary in Nepal.
